SOCIAL MEDIA DESIGN
For a lot of reporters, the work ends when they hit publish. For me that is when a lot of my work begins. During my tenure at DCist and WAMU, I have worked with reporters on social media strategy for hundreds of stories. For certain stories, such as the turmoil on H street for Black businesses or the opening of Black and Forth, I pitched ideas for our newsroom to pursue. Working in social, my job was to create something dynamic and eye-catching that would lead to engagement on the post or more clicks to the story. Sometimes my job was to simply retell the story we published in a smaller package for social. Most of the designs below are interactive, incorporate multimedia and require you to swipe through. As someone with a love for print, I tried to apply those design principles to social media in a way that gave post and editorialized feeling.
Below are some of my favorite posts. Click on one to visit the post and swipe through to see the full design!
